Family Wild Bunch & Wild Holiday Bunch

Wild Holiday Bunch: holiday club for 7-11 years old adventurers!

The Wild Holiday Bunch is Northfield Ecocentre’s popular outdoor holiday scheme for children aged 7-11 years old. It provides a safe and supportive environment for children to explore the world at their doorstep and themselves while learning new skills.

The activities take place in small groups of maximum 12 children at Masefield Community Garden, a RHS award winning garden managed by Northfield Ecocentre.

Each day is packed with plenty of site exploration, fun gardening projects, natural crafts, learning to use tools safely, and some exciting games.

Examples of past activities involved growing your own wheat in April, harvesting the grains in August to attempt making your own flour,  learning about soil and all the exciting stuff inside it, using clay to make your own paint and create amazing articrafts, making your own charcoal pencils and become natural artists, creating a natural fashion show with the flora available on site…

New for 2017: this year children had the opportunity to complete their Arts Award Discover Level  exploring Land Art artists, their work and creating their own piece of Land Art thinking about the site and using whatever natural materials were found in the garden.

And naturally there will always be enough time for the ever favourite den-building and camp fire cooking!

Family Wild Bunch: forest school for whole families spending quality time at the magical place of Masefield garden.

Family Wild Bunch  offers 2 hours of exciting adventures for 3-8 years old and their parents.

Families explore the site together and learn about the urban fauna & flora available at Masefield while also working together to build, create, cook!

Both Wild Holiday Bunch & Family Wild Bunch will be run by our qualified Forest School leader with the help of DBS checked volunteers.

Nature is our playground!

Wild Holiday Bunch sessions will run with a minimum of 8 but a maximum of 12 children.
Multi Bunch discounts available: book 2 or more sessions in one booking and get the 3rd one 1/2 price.
Concessions are available, please get in touch!

Clothing
Suitable clothing is essential to enjoy a day spent outside so we recommend layers of warm clothes always with long sleeves/long trousers AND waterproof jacket/trousers. Wellies or sturdy waterproof shoes are to be worn. A change of socks and jumper should be provided.

Food
At Wild Holiday Bunch we will have a lunch break for children to take their time and enjoy their surroundings. Please be aware that there is no waste disposal at Masefield apart from composting facilities. Children will therefore be advised to take all wrappings/packaging and non-compostable items back home with them.
When preparing the lunch boxes, please do also take into consideration that the children will be outside whole day involved in physical activities. They will also need water to keep them going during the day.
A snack and a warm drink will be provided in the afternoon.

Both Family Wild Bunch & Wild Holiday Bunch sessions take place at Masefield Community Garden, Lindsey Ave (off Bunbury Road), Northfield, B31 2DT.

Being in the great outdoors, he absolutely loved it and the variety of activities he found fascinating, from tying knots to helping make a fire. We can’t wait for the next session.

I think this camp is offering something really crucial to children both as a principle (in helping the young generation have a relationship with the environment) and in practice (it was better than we had even hoped).
